The US dresses up its mistreatment of its own citizens as "problems that need to be worked on" and then promptly does extremely little by design to solve many of those problems. People get arrested, mistreated, and have systems designed to deny them human decency and rights all the time. But because it's "part of the system", those injustices are allowed to stack up ad naseum as the promise of "just elect the right guy to fix them" is forever dangled to the populace. The US already committed its primary genocide to exist and did basically nothing to own up to that, and the possibilities of a trans genocide are unfolding before the states now too as the already extreme right wing pushes harder and harder towards dehumanizing and demonizing LGBT people (and a good deal of that is completely legal under the system too and increasingly with little recourse to stop it). A lot of Chinese policy is horrific and cruel towards it people, dehumanizing, and completely fucking horrific too. But the point I bring up is that the US certainly does not treat its own people well even if it is SUPPOSED to in theory have all these guard rails and features to protect people.

And beyond that, no other country in the world has the direct military intervention record the US does. And how many states have gotten into bed with the US to find their industries, resources, and institutions gutted and sold off to "Western capital" or even just "austerity measures" sold to gut the economies of other countries. It's happened time and time again, so of course the US screams as loud as it can about what Belt and Road is going to do to countries... because that's exactly what the US has done over and over.

Well, I think it's fairly important that if you make a documentary focused on a notable black person from history, you don't make up stuff. There's nothing wrong with a documentary highlighting black people (or people of colour) who played an important part in world history, since history as it's too often yold is way too white-centric, but you can't just make shit up about someone's ethnicity to "claim" a heritage as actually yours.

It's something white folks have of course done forever and it's pretty bad seeing prominent black people now doing the same by just claiming Cleopatra was black, actually, instead of actually focusing on one of the great African queens of the past.

It's even more jarring because, as someone else mentioned in the thread, the Ptolemys were kind of colonizers abusing and suppressing the native population, so there's another whole problematic layer in framing people from that dynasty as actually great black rulers.

Because these famous people deep down doesn’t give a shit about all this outside of superficial empowerment and clout chasing. Like you just said, is the same with white people but people in the Anglo sphere seem to think that lesson of all this is just let marginalized groups lie about historical facts because they also makes them feel better (and prominent people from those groups can take advantage of that). BCT is just the same given how many initial snarky responses from usual members.

The Florida House late Thursday passed a bill that seeks to allow the death penalty for people who commit sexual batteries on children under age 12.

This will actually make it harder for children to come forward as they will be afraid to their parent/guardian/"friend"/family member will be killed if they speak up, could somehow be used to threaten gender affirming care providers (Florida is rapidly trying to reclassify GAC as sexual abuse), and likely increase the risk that chikd victims are murdered to keep them quiet.

A sensible title for once!  And she adds commentary! 

But I doubt those under age 12 are going to avoid speaking up because of the potential repercussions their abuser faces.  I mean, grown women does not accuse a man of rape it's not because she's worried about his well being.  It's because of the litany of other reasons women don't accuse their abusers.
