There was a fairly good German horror movie based on that a few years ago.  Eric P would know the name (I think he suggested it to me)

You'd imagine that being say at least six foot would be a requirement for getting cast as Apocalypse.

But this and that shadowy conspiracy against me is probably why I don't make big budget hollywood movies.

I don't really see why it matters what Apocalypse looks like.  He can be a green turtle for all I care.  Just give me a good story, with a well acted apocalypse and he'll be great.

Let's be honest, Apocalypse will probably be 10 feet tall in the finale when he battles Xavier's newly-assembled-for-the-first-time X-men. And it will be awesome.

Ant-man sadly doesn't have the benefit of rave reviews and a hot up-and-coming star like GOTG did, so I'm not surprised it's not on the radar for most people.

The loss of Edgar Wright killed the buzz for a lot of people who had been following the production early with enthusiasm.

Don't be fooled:  this movie has Edgar Wright's fingerprints all over it.  Over than a few scenes and some dialogue changes, this very much feels like a Wright flick.  The comedy is very much in tune with his past work.

I wonder how it ends up doing. I don't know anyone that wants to see it.

$22.4 Million Friday estimates, probably ~$55 Million for the weekend. That would put it right around what Incredible Hulk did in '08. So, not great.

Depending on how much was shot, or even just based on the script, or marketing, it may have been a Disney-directive to imitate Wright's style. It easier to imitate a style than to come up with a new and original style.

Watched Jack Reacher to see if I should be interested in the new Mission Impossible.

It was enjoyable.  Less good than say, John Wick, in terms of action films, but the direction was pretty solid and kept it engaging and satisfying.  Mildly looking forward to MI now.  It should at least be enjoyable.

McQuarrie's first film, Way of the Gun, was good.

Watched the 39 Steps by Hitchcock and liked it. It's not as visually stunning (some nice framing though) at what the other great directors of the time were doing (Thinking of British WW2 films done by Lang there) but the hectic pacing going through all sorts of tones and situations towards a bizarre ending makes up for it. Regarding the Blu-Ray master, they could maybe have done more with the digital restoration (sound especially is really rough and cackling at points).

The Poltergeist remake is so awful. Just boring, bland and unremarkable in every way.

Avengers 2 did nothing for me either. I really don't get the MCU love. The Hulk is totally the best part. We really need a competent Hulk movie.

Skipped Ant Man this weekend in favor of Trainwreck since I'm a big fan of Apatow directed films.  To me the stuff he actually directs, as opposed to produces, tends to be a cut above every other silly comedy out there and brings the funny, but also brings genuine characters and are good films beyond just being funny.  Trainwreck was fantastic, really funny, but yeah it also felt very genuine and was a nice character tale.  Saw in the credits that Amy Schumer wrote the script.  I've never seen any of her stuff, but the writing was great and she nailed her character so I am impressed.  Apatow brings a nice authentic style to it all, and the cameos were great as always.

It's probably Apatow's best film yet.  Highly recommend for anyone who likes funny.

Wife and I bailed on a wedding early last night to catch a movie. Ant-man was the only thing starting any time soon.

We both liked it. Still felt a lot like Edgar Wright was involved in it.

if I could sprinkle magic pixie dust on any filmmaker and give them the career, resources, and accolades they deserve, Stuart Gordon would be a top contender for such a contrived gift.

his David Mamet(?!) adaptation Edmund is pretty ace as well.

Saw Inside Out (インサイド・ヘッド) with a pretty packed theater by Japanese standards. I was honestly not thrilled by the first third, but by the end I was really into it. My wife and I were both discussing how insightful it is, but my 10-year-old also loved it. Pixar pulls magic out of the hat again. (please, please, please don't make any more Cars movies)

Yea, Inside Out was a surprisingly funny movie. I don't think I've laughed that many times at an animated movie in a long time. It's not perfect, but at least it proves Pixar still has a pulse.
