Johnny Mnemonic is better.
that's a real toss up between competing shit sandwiches there.  I suppose Johnny Mnemonic is better because its technically a better film, but that's like saying cyanide is a better poison because it kills you faster.

I'd only recommend either to hardened shit movie watchers.  As for an actual good and very outdated futuristic film, Strange Days is pretty damn ace.

I'm not concerned about the realism of a Catwoman or a Batman. Catwoman is considerably more cheesy than Batman though. I don't see how she'll be brought to screen in a decent fashion. Nor am I sold on Bane.

A cat burglar who wears lots of black and a smart Mexican guy who uses drugs to become really strong.

you're just over-thinking things and and trying to apply the literal comic book characters into movie form.

Captain America spoilers:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
- 90% of the film takes place during the period 1939-1945, but the beginning and end of the feature film takes place today ...

- As an introduction, we see an exploration team discovered the remains of a giant bomber under the snows of the Arctic. Flashback (true beginning of the film): attack on a village in Norway (Hansberg) by troops from Hydra. Johann Scmidt is present (Skull), who has a passion for Nordic mythology. He looks for an object, the Cube [as seen in the Comic Con footage]

- The Skull is a former Nazi party member who left to found the organization Hydra. His vehicle is a car which is nine feet long, shielded and armed ... Hydra's secret base is located in the Alps, and he worked on controlling the energy of the Cube. The Cube is able to open a portal to "other dimensions of space-time. His "human" face is just a mask hiding his true appearance: Red Skull.

- Steve Rogers is a young man puny victim of mockery by thugs in Brooklyn. The body of actor Chris Evans will be digitally processed to give it that look. Steve is already friends with Bucky Barnes [his sidekick in the film]. Unlike Steve, he was accepted into the army and he was preparing to leave.

- The two friends visit an exhibition in New York, "The world of tomorrow." Among the exhibitors? Howard Stark [Tony's father]. There is a showcasing of anti-gravity boots, which only have a fraction of the energy of the cube. Stark Sr. will create the shield of Cap.

- After his transformation, Steve Rogers is used as a mascot in cinema, theater and performing in a music hall. During a performance (at Radio City Music Hall in New York) Rogers ended his show by hitting an actor dressed as Hitler (reenacting the cover of Captain America comic issue #1).

- He became a celebrity, while remaining down to earth, once sent to Europe, where he learns that Bucky was captured in a weapons factory in the Hydra. During this first mission, he frees a group that will become the Invaders.

- There will be a quick montage with several missions of Captain America: for example the sabotage of a train of Hydra. Cap and his crew rappel down a mountain and atterrisent on the roof of the train.

- The final scene: The Red Skull's purpose is to build a carrier style bomber, containing planes carrying bombs, which are destined for London and U.S. cities. The armament and machinery will be important. Red Skull uses the cube to power these machines (huge tank, bomber). There will be a great battle between the Red Skull and Captain America in the plane which eventually crashed in the Arctic.

- Captain America 2: Heinrichs evokes the possibility of a film blending the past and the present [as the current Ed Brubaker stories show]. Especially at a time of the interview, he speaks of the Hydra as an organization still in existence, and Nick Fury is fighting still fighting against it.

damn, what was up with the 90's and the future?

Judge Dredd has some freaking great practical effects, and pretty much nothing else.  I don't even place it in the bad-awesome Stallone movies like Cobra.  Johnny Mnemonic is pretty terrible tho.  Its a shitty noir, action movie, and now dated special effects movie.  And even though I love the guy, Dolph Lundgren for reals gave the best performance in that movie.  Its a disaster of a film and despite all the copious WTF-ery of it all, it still manages to be boring as hell.

Bucky:

http://www.badassdigest.com/2011/02/02/what-does-the-first-picture-of-bucky-captain-americas-sidekick-tell-us
Quote
And that’s why the picture is interesting; it shows Bucky with a sniper rifle, which leads me to believe that a scoop I reported long ago on CHUD – that this version of Bucky would be the Brubaker version, with a lead in to the modern day version of the character, a brainwashed Soviet assassin called Winter Soldier, to appear in a sequel – is confirmed. This looks to be the wetworks Bucky Barnes, the guy who does the messy kills so that Captain America can continue being the shining sentinel of liberty.

WINTER SOLDIER in Captain America 2.

Judge Dredd is even further than that. Who cares? It's an awesomely bad scifi movie from the 90's about the future [whereas Fifth Element is merely an awesome scifi movie from 90's about the future].

I thought Johnny Mnemonic was maddeningly entertaining the last time I watched it; I cackled like an idiot the entire way through.  It's bursting at the seams with absurdity.  I think I mentioned here after I saw it, I'm pretty sure it was intended to be taken as camp.

I really, really don't get the Nolan hate from you Manabyte. You seem to be more of a Marvel guy than DC, but not to fanboy status; after all you are looking forward to Green Lantern lol. You're big into comic stuff in general, super hero films, action/fantasy/etc.

Given how faithful Nolan has been to the franchise when compared to previous comic incarnations, I would have thought you'd be on board. Now I'm not going to defend Batman Begins, which is meh. But TDK is perhaps the most revered superhero film since the first Superman.

Ledger's death had a big impact on the film's success imo, but at the end of the day it was a good movie with a great performance from him.

I will say this: the TDK fanboys on GAF (and in real life) are indeed intolerable. "Oh I bought 3 copies on Blu Ray and watched each one today fuck yea!" Fuck that. It's a part of the dudebro religion now

Ledger's death had a big impact on the film's success imo

TDK was going to make a lot more than BB regardless, because:

-The Joker is a much more recognizable and desired character
-Ledger's performance as The Joker was really good
-TDK was bigger and better than BB

We'll never know just how much Ledger's death contributed to TDK's success, but in no way does his death account for the complete $630 million that TDK did above BB.

Quote
I will say this: the TDK fanboys on GAF (and in real life) are indeed intolerable.

Unless you happen to agree with them, hardcore fans of ANYTHING are intolerable. You might as well boycott videogames and comic book/fantasy/scifi movies in their entirety if you're going to bash the product for the actions and attitudes of its fans.

Well, I think it's a safe bet that Ledger's death, and the public awareness of TDK that brought with it, accounted for at least $1,921,826.

I enjoyed TDK, but its not deserving of the adoration so many commit to it.  There's plenty to criticize and some outlandish situations that don't quite gel.  All of Nolan films are enjoyable and creative but they have some very real problems.

Come on, now.

But I know plenty of typical folks that didn't think it was the bee's knees it was made out to be.  As I said, a fun movie, but its not hard to see where the detractors are coming from.  Being a movie based on a comic doesn't make the smatters of preachy exposition acceptable.  Laringitis Batman is easy to mock.  The Joker's plots play out a little too conveniently throughout the movie, making their plausibility skeptical.  TWO FACE WAS ROBBED! of screentime.

This isn't about liking the movie or not liking it. It's about ManaByte hating TDK and Nolan because he's mad that a lot of people love it and constantly posting any little bit of negative news [which is often rumor, which is often false] that he can dig up.

Thor must really suck, there is not even a trailer out for CA yet and every week the movie seems to be on the cover of a magazine and everyday there are pics or reports about the movie on different sites, Thor on the other hand had the first official pick, a trailer and...thats it, shame Thor was the super hero movie I was looking forward the most this year :'(

Making an ass out of your self eh? Well I can say the only reason you hate nolan is cause of internet fanboys. Me on the other hand I don't care if someone is loved or not, what I enjoy is what I enjoy.

He hasn't made a bad movie yet and me and my friends in real life(something you don't have) agree on that with others hating his work. Now stopped making assumptions and write more stories about comic book movies that are an advertisement for an upcoming shitfest.

And about TDK, of course Heath's death contributed to the movie, that's indisputable. But thinking TDK would have done Begins numbers or even flopped is horseshit in itself. Batman Begins was after Batman & Robin plus it was years after, with an actor who wasn't well known. But after Batman Begins getting acclaim and amazing word of mouth, with the viral marketing TDK got and the excitement even before Heath's death, it was already going to be a success. That in itself is irrefutable.

Dude relax it's Manabyte. His only reason for living is being an insufferable ultra-douche.

Worst part about Captain America is that it's Joe Johnston doing another comic movie and it isn't The Rocketeer 2.

actually, it's everything that isn't Chris Evans being a beefy alpha male.  And Bucky looks like a bottom with ambitions of being a power bottom.

btw, do Captain America and Bucky retain a pre-civil rights movement mentality? is there a comic where Bucky is appalled to see a colored man drink from the same water fountain?

Tom Cruise might be the lead in Del Toro's At the Mountain of Madness.

Hey, I think that's just great.  We know the guy can do loony-tunes-crazy, and he can do whitebread and square jawed American dude, and a R-rated tentpole horror film needs all the marketability it can get.  So I think Del Toro would be wise to arm himself with the Cruise missile.

bucky was thought to have been killed in the accident which froze captain america, and steve rogers (captain america's real name) spent a good decade in the comics whining about his guilt over it after he was revived

then, decades later, in what is termed a "retcon" in comics slang, readers found out that bucky hadn't died (although he'd lost an arm)

apparently the russians fished him out of the water, replaced his arm with a bionic one, and began using him as an "on-call" assassin throughout the years, placing him in cryonic sleep until needed (so he's aged very little)

eventually he was deprogrammed, and when captain america was killed in the comics for a while (nothing last forever in comics), he became the new captain america (wearing a slightly redesigned suit)

and, in my opinion, was a much more interesting character

Yes and Winter Soldier is awesome.

Evans is signed for 3 Captain America movies and 3 Avengers.

The rumor is that they'll make it look like Bucky dies in the first movie. The second movie will naturally be in present day and they apparently set up in the first one that Hydra is still around and Nick Fury's been fighting them for years. The rumor is that Bucky/Winter Soldier will show up in the sequel as a brainwashed assassin first brainwashed by the Russians but now working for Hydra.

Warner is trying to cast a blonde actress that's NOT Lois Lane for Snyder's Superman.

Hmmm...
(Image removed from quote.)

All those actresses are too old for supergirl.
