I just don’t get calling the human characters trash. It just kind of well....seems stupid.
You can not like the movie sure but that just sticks out to me as a pretty dumb critique. Which was then followed up by a lame “I’m no sheep post”.
Like the movie does a really good job of being even handed with its human characters and not making them evil or good, just understandable. Which in a eco friendly story is somewhat of an accomplishment. The people of Iron Town come off as people and at no point does the movie feel the need to make exaggerated movements of storytelling to make them pittyable, sympathetic, greedy, or whatever. It conveys quite well that they like the animals are just there trying to live. Lady Eboshi is areally well done antagonist as well. Rarely do sympathetic “villains” work like this. Yeah I understand their moviations, but they are still insane and evil. Eboshi isn’t, she’s the antagonistic force obviously and a bit too industrious and prideful, but she’s still very human and full of redeemable qualities.
The main character (Arashi?) is exactly the neutral viewpoint a story like this needs. There’s nothing amazing about him, but his non judgmental self less self serves the story well. I hate to both sides it, but yeah he’s a pretty ok and grounded version of a neutral character. And it makes sense, he comes form a village not yet touched by industry and empire. He’s still human and noble though.
I don’t know as an eco fairly tale I find the characters pretty well grounded and thus the story not up it’s own ass like it could be.
