Trailer makes it look like there's a ridiculous amount of dramatic embellishment bordering on fabrication.  I'm left here asking "Why?", the story of Tetris is super interesting on its own and enough to carry a good movie, no need to gin up a bunch of untrue events to make it "exciting".

I wonder if the movie is a loose adaptation of this book:

Trailer reminded me of the book, which was a good read.

Apple saw Nintendo dropped the original Tetris for free for online subscribers and scrambled to get onto those massive coattails

It's Togo Igawa as Nintendo's former President Hiroshi Yamauchi.

I'm on the other side of the fence, this is the first step towards the Gunpei Yokoi feature film that follows his life from the invention of the Ultra Hand, the massive success of the Game Boy, the sabotage of the Virtual Boy, his Wonderswan betrayal and ultimately his murder by the Nintendo Yakuza.

I have to admit that despite my misgivings, if they can work on a lot of the mythologized Yamauchi-Yakuza connections and the generally no-chill grumpiness of Yamauchi, that alone would sell the movie for me.

I'll still watch this Tetris movie, because I am interested.  But I'll be rolling the fuck out of my eyes during any of that action-movie chicanery.

At some stage they were gonna adapt Masters of Doom. Think Seth Rogen was involved? Full line up of movies about game development. But really, I just need Ridley Scott’s House of (the) Sega.

What's the twist? I ain't watching some 20 minute video for something that could be 3 minutes...
breh is pointing out that not only is tyler all in the protagonists' head, but also marla and big tiddy meatloaf, along with the entire fight club following crew.

I've been watching some old Euro movies lately. I've just finished Tony Arzenta (aka Big Guns/No Way Out), a 50-year-old Italian thriller flick with some pretty big stars at the time (chiefly Alain Delon). Basically, a hitman wants to quit but the mob won't let him with some collateral damage. He then goes on a revenge spree.

Ending is very un-Hollywood-like, but rather typical of euro flicks. I'll let you guess...

That was actually one of the rare instances where a YouTube video didn't waste my time.

Men

Basically what I expected after hearing some impressions beforehand. On the one hand the theme is almost too obvious where it makes you feel like the movie should have been more subtle and then there are elements that are so obtuse that it feels hard to really see a point, just a very mixed bag.
On the technical level it's some very solid work though and I have to say the last 10 minutes or so are some of the wildest, grossest shit I've seen in a long time.

RAW - from the director of Titane, is the story of a vegetarian vetrinary student who is forced to eat meat, and undergoes a troubling and obsessive change. It's more visceral than Titane, and possibly more disturbing, but not quite as weird or thought provoking. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

I watched Interstellar again and it has been some time since I last watched it.

I don't care how dumb the plot is, I love this movie. It looks so good in beautiful 4k and sounds even better. That soundtrack is magical.

I made my girl watch this movie and she cringed all the way through.

Now I just randomly nimble on her finger and she side eyes me so hard.

Watched Black Panther 2

A little long, yes, but only one character flies and there are no Dragon Ball Z power orb battles, and sarcastic quips are kept to a minimum.

Felt like a real movie even.

Watched Vivarium - Eh, it was ok but kind of boring because it's a 1 hour twilight zone/black mirror ep that's 90 mins. Only made it through this by being on my phone doing other stuff during the bulk of it. I don't dislike the concept/story though, it's just boring because it's too long and there's not enough substance for the run length.

M3GAN was just so-so. The kills were fun, but the rest of the movie was surprisingly boring. Was a movie with good moments, but not good overall. I agree that the Chucky reboot evil AI movie was a better film overall.

Watched The Strays on Netflix, and its pretty meh.

It sort of feels like it wants to say something important, but doesn't know about what and ultimately doesn't say anything at all, and then just ends.

It's not very suspenseful for a thriller, its not very political or insightful despite having multiple opportunities to actually bite into something bigger, and its not even that well acted given the decent cast.

Was alright. Something clinical about it. Couldn’t tell if it was all one big meta joke about being desperate for you to notice how clever it thinks it is. Movie felt half an hour longer than it should’ve from explaining the jokes.

Die Hart

Had it on in the background. Only out of curiosity for turning a Quibi show into a movie. tl dr Quibi was a short lived streaming platform built around phone viewing. Episodes were under 10 minutes, could be watched in portrait mode. Concept was to watch on public transport or during a dump. Dumb as shit to begin with. But launched right as COVID hit killed it dead instantly. They spent a billion dollars to built content. Presumably this movie is gluing 10 episodes together and dumping it on Amazon Prime.

Anyway, it seems bad. But it opens with Kevin Hart saying all the movies he’s in with The Rock are terrible. Plus John Travolta unconvincingly plays a heterosexual.

I liked Babylon. Perhaps the chatter about it being a zany ride tempered my expectations. It’s mostly not that. Main fella is a GTA protagonist for the first hour, moving from eccentric characters monologuing at him before he’s given a mission. But relatively speaking, it’s a small part of the movie.

It’s Boogie Nights, basically.

Also, Margot Robbie is miscast. She’s good in a lot of things. It stood out here.

I know Kevin Spacey is a mad freak these days but his 90s run can’t be denied. Swimming with sharks, Glengarry Glenross, Usual Suspects. We watched American Beauty last night and it still stands. I don’t think that Mena Suvari ever got the credit she deserved for her part. She did a really good job sending up the type of girl she was playing

By November 1998, Thora Birch, Wes Bentley, and Mena Suvari had been cast in the parts—in Birch's case, despite the fact she was 16 years old and was deemed underage for a brief nude scene, which her parents had to approve. Child labor representatives accompanied Birch's parents on set during the filming of the nude scene.
