Going to finish watching Legion having left off at season 1. Just finished the opener for two and yep this is my jam. Mind bending and emotionally arresting.

2 more eps left in Devs. Show is so good. One of the more interesting sci-fi concept shows in a while. Really good cast too. Didn't recognize that the main girl is the scientist from Maniac and was in Ex Machina. Also the genius programmer boy is played by the girl from Pacific Rim 2 and Bad Times at the El Royale? Crazy.

Good luck. S2 gets iffy.

Rewatching Ash v. Evil Dead from s1 since s3 came to Netflix Japan.

Things I missed the first time:
Lucy Lawless has a nude scene in it after she shows up too late at Kelly’s parents’ home.
When they cut the cover off of the Necronomicon ex Mortis, they literally “de-faced” the book.

I just loved the episode where ash is in the asylum and they think he's been broken and turned, and he just turns around and tells them he thought they all knew his plan because he told them what it was, and he actually did a couple of episodes earlier, but it was so dumb nobody thought he was serious :rofl

I think Ash as a fucking idiot works so well as that being the reason he's the chosen one.

Evil can come up with all the schemes and attempts to traumatise or terrify him they want, he's too fucking dense for any of them to work, and he just blunders headfirst directly into them and wrecks them :rofl

Every episode having a different director and what exactly the Evils motivations and powers are being deliberately vague worked for me as it basically became a horror anthology playing with different subgenres - one episode might be an OTT 80s style gorefest, the next might be assault on precinct 13, the next might be a possessed car

Yeah Season 1 started a bit slow, Season 2 was the peak, absolutely fantastic, and then season 3 was still worth watching, just not as good.
I would've gladly taken a season 4 tho.

They hit their stride like 4 or 5 eps into s1, really locked in when hit the cabin again and pretty much hold it throughout s2. I loved the s2 ending and was actually a bit shocked they got to do a third season tbh. Probably part of why I didn't rush to try to catch it lol.

Finished Devs - Great show, but didn't really care for the last 2 eps. Like at least Garland gave an ending instead of some artsy leave it all open don't explain anything ending, but the two issues I had was it felt too nihilistic and

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I couldn't get past the concept in the last 2 eps that Forrester/Katie/Lily all see & know the day and their actions and dialogue and do it anyhow. Like usually this kind of plotting is done in a way that even when the people try to do something different because they are aware of the future that the future still happens because of what they did different. Here they don't even try that, they just mimic and say the dialogue they believe they will say in the future. Like even if I buy that for Forrester/Katie because they are so in belief of the machine, I don't buy that for Lily, after all she was able to throw the gun and not follow it, so unless we're supposed to believe she was just waiting that whole time for dramatic effect, she could have just as easily not gone to Devs and proved the same point.

Also it bothered me how cold it made Katie & Forrester at the end. I think I started not enjoying the show as much after Lyndon's death at the dam. Katie knew Lyndon was going to fall and still egged Lyndon to do it and just let it happen. That was a bit too dark and too cold and it bothered me along with killing Jamie off. Didn't really care that much by the ending.

I liked season 1 but despite the episodes being kinda short it felt like it went a little too long and got a bit weaker at the end.

Did you drop it during Season 2? It ties everything up pretty satisfactorily imo as a whole by the end of season 3.

Fucking weird to have an examination of mental illness, responses to trauma and personal growth done through the lens of superheroes though.

The fiancé and I just got done with Chernobyl. Fucking great show, glad I finally got her just to watch it.
Just such a bleak disaster but also really interesting especially the last episode. I also in the day have been watching, well attempting to watch westworld season 2 and holy fuck, is it just me or did this show get way way worse this season, I was told it was still clever and good? This is neither of those it fucking sucks. Very near just dropping it and watching something else.

Finished Ozarks yesterday. I like various things about the show but man...I really hate when I'm watching a show and can tell the writers are writing themselves out of a hole with lazy resolutions or coincidences that break believability. And boy this show is full of that shit. Someone standing in your way? Don't worry, they're going to die in an accident. Need resolution? Fear not, it will fall into your lap. Reminds me of one of the worst parts of Breaking Bad (think: plane crash), but it happens every season.

As the criminal "empire" expands, the shortcuts increase basically. There are a lot of things I enjoy about the show but from a writing perspective you just can't compared this to truly great shows. It's cool. I'm looking forward to S4, even though I kinda feel like I can predict what's going to happen at this point.

I see it's from the writer of The Favourite.
Indeed the trailer makes it look like a reshuffle of that (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if they can find some fresh angle to that type of plot).

Can you cite some examples?   Resolutions falling into people's laps?  Huh?

From S3

spoiler (click to show/hide)
They need the second casino. Older couple can't agree on an agreement; husband wants to sell, wife doesn't. Wife accidentally dies on a walk, husband sells the casino. And then that plot basically disappeared immediately afterwards lol.

Darlene potentially kills/maims Frank Jr with a shotgun. Waltzes into a meeting with his dad, who has made it clear multiple times that he values blood/family/respect over money...and magically convinces him to join her as a business partner.

Therapist gets bribed with a six figure payout. Purchases a McClaren (?!). Gets wacked and erased from existence despite Helen knowing about the payout, which a forensic accountant (you know, like Mia) could easily find and raise red flags on. Never gets mentioned again. May come up in S4 of course.

Jonah and Ben just so happen to spy on Ruth on the very day of the cartel hit, save her life, and later the recording is used to get the FBI involved/save Marty's life.
[close]

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The show feels like a nonstop escalation of threats and deadlines that the family overcomes at the last second, time and time again. One of the reasons S2 worked for me is that acquiring a casino was a logical next step for money laundering...and earning it took time. They had to bust their asses for it, and it led to some interesting character development/reveals. And then in S3 it's like well thanks but now here's 10 more things to juggle, oh and btw get another casino (that won't even matter after you get it), oh and don't forget to keep laundering the money (despite previous demands making that nigh impossible due to attracting FBI involvement). The obvious retort is that "well yea, that's what happens when you get in too deep." Meh.

Also the Mexican cartel boss seems to conveniently change personality, depending on whether or not stakes need to be reaised or lowered.  ::)

I just finished watching this, and its still enjoyably weird. I liked they leaned into the energy vampire a bit more this season, because that concepts great and the episode where he gets promoted at his day job was a standout for me
