I had no idea they had that few cruise missiles. Crazy they started a war without a larger stockpile. They obviously did not expect global sanctions to hit them the way they did.

@Raist
Yeah, I found the same website looking for more realistic numbers.
This is a good summary of the information: https://www.outono.net/elentir/2022/10/26/russias-tank-losses-in-ukraine-some-data-from-2021-to-verify-hoy-serious-they-are/

And "Citing an open-source intelligence report from military experts, Lenta.ru reported that the Russian Army has in total 2685 main battle tanks in their active inventory." (2020)
https://defence-blog.com/revealed-number-of-main-battle-tanks-in-russia/

Of course as explained by outono.net  Russia also has thousands more of outdated (50+ years old) tanks in storage, but most of those may not be functional and have little combat value.

I mean. They expected to roll over Ukraine in under a week so...

They've been pulling ancient artifacts out of storage, I doubt that 2.8k figure took that into account.
Nevermind the exact number, those are absolutely catastrophic losses anyway and they won't recover for decades.

Brazil went commie
CIA you know what to do

Lula was responsible for the flourishing of a middle class when he was last in office. Yes, corruption, I suspect any government will expose roaches and pillbugs when the carpet is pulled up.

Very glad Brazil got rid of Bolsonaro.
"[Da Silva] won 50.83 percent of the votes, versus Mr. Bolsonaro’s 49.17 percent"
(NYT)

Amazing that despite everything so many people still voted for Bolsonaro, aka one of the biggest morons ever to be elected president of anything.
Wanna bet he's going to pull a Former Guy next and claim he was cheated?
Bolsonaro has already ceded victory, according to the News. Trump was still claiming victory even as the eviction squad showed up to fumigate the White House.

Yes, surprising. After claiming for months there'd be fraud he decided not to go that way after all. Maybe Bolsonaro saw that there was no benefit in it; after all Trump did not get reinstated, he just further damaged US democracy. Bolsonaro probably thinks he has a better chance of making a comeback later on by not acting like a sore loser now.

Come on now.

"Since his 2018 election victory, Bolsonaro has made baseless allegations of voter fraud in Brazil, which critics say could lay the groundwork to challenge upcoming elections in the same vein as his political idol, former U.S. President Donald Trump."
https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/brazils-bolsonaro-says-he-wont-hand-over-presidency-if-there-is-vote-fraud-2021-07-01/

"Meanwhile, Bolsonaro has been pushing baseless lies about the integrity of the election for months, wrongly stating that voting machines in the country cannot be trusted to deliver a true outcome. On Sunday, after polling lower than da Silva in the election’s first round, Bolsonaro claimed without evidence that election administrators had rigged the outcome.

“They took sides. They have a candidate for president,” Bolsonaro said. “Or at least there’s one they don’t want, which is me.”

Are you kidding me?
I quoted his own words above. He has been spreading baseless lies about election fraud supposedly targeting him for several years, and did so again after the first round of the cuerrent presidential election, disputing its legitimacy. Those were his actions. The distribution of lies. He just decided to back down now, for whatever reason.

Making a prediction based on evidence of past history doesn't make it baseless or a figment of one's imagination just because the prediction turned out wrong.

Bolsonaro was never going to challenge the election outcome. He spend most of his presidency in a hospital bed.  :lol

His presidency had the intended outcome because after decades of one-party rule Bolsonaro turned a one-man show into a viable opposition party.
Lula has won the presidency but only has the support of a single region. He's boxed in and will have to make deals with others unlike during his previous terms.
The commie grandpa act while taking bribes from oil and construction companies isn't going to work this time.

This is a great documentary on the subject

Lula simply struck a deal with the people already in control and that would come back to haunt him when the anime betrayal happened.
After Bolso was elected he did not 'join' the existing parties as a puppet of the existing elite like everyone (including this documentary maker) expected but instead started his own party.

Here's an interesting article on why right wing election fraud lies did not succed in Brazil:
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/05/world/americas/brazil-election-us-democracy.html

A Brazilian supreme court judge led an aggressive campaign against misinformation, and it worked.
Unless modern clown-show "conservatives" are allowed to lie with impunity, they can not win elections.

https://japantoday.com/category/national/Japanese-gov%27t-seeking-power-to-turn-down-private-home-air-conditioners-remotely-report-says

Quote
TOKYO
For a large part of the year, the weather in Japan is far from comfortable. Winters are cold, and summers are hot and humid.

Those seasons could become even less comfortable, though, if a new plan from the Japanese government goes through. As reported by Japan’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun, in a meeting on Nov 2, the Energy Conservation Subcommittee of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry resolved to begin working group discussions with the aim of gaining the ability to remotely turn down privately owned air conditioner/heater units. The goal would be to decrease energy usage during expected power shortages, which the committee feels are a growing concern as Japan attempts to shift towards renewable energy sources such as solar power, where the amount generated can be affected by day-to-day climate, making it difficult to stabilize the amount of total power available. The ministry says that AC unit usage accounts for roughly 30 percent of household electricity consumption in Japan.

From a technical standpoint, the plan wouldn’t be particularly difficult to implement. Japanese air conditioner units have long had remote controls, so external inputs aren’t a problem, and many models now allow the owner to turn the system on and off or adjust temperature settings through the internet. By asking manufacturers to extend such access to government regulatory organizations, and granting those organizations override functions over other inputs, the plan could easily be put into practice for internet-connected AC units, and water heaters are another home appliance the committee is looking to gain the ability to throttle back.

Winning over the minds of the public, though, isn’t likely to be as easy, as Twitter reactions to the news attest to.

“Creepy.”

“Are they crazy?”

“Playing God.”

“That’s the sort of idea you’d only come up with if you aren’t right in the head.”

“I’m glad the AC unit I just bought isn’t internet-connected.”

“Another great government idea.”

“Hey, government, isn’t it your job to make sure the power grid can support us?”

“So they’ll stop doing this when people start dying, right?”

The last comment might sound like hyperbole, but heatstroke deaths aren’t uncommon in Japan, with a heat wave a while back killing 79 people in Tokyo alone. According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the committee is currently working under the concept that the government would only be able to turn down AC units if their individual owners have agreed, in advance, to grant that authority.

Ukrainian and Western officials say Russia’s stocks of precision-guided missiles and drones have run low, prompting it to turn to Iran. A spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force said on Monday that Moscow and Tehran had finalized an agreement to deliver Iranian Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar ballistic missiles to Russia
[...]
Maj. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence directorate, has said delivery of Iranian missiles could happen by the end of November. “It’s a serious threat because Iranian missiles, unlike Russian ones, are quite high-precision, very high-speed, and those features have been battle-proven,”
[...]
Ukraine has been asking Western countries for systems that can shoot down ballistic missiles, which travel at several times the speed of sound, making them much harder to hit in flight than cruise missiles or slow-moving drones. General Budanov referred to the possibility of weapons that could strike missile launch sites, but the United States and others have been reluctant to give Ukraine the means to hit targets inside Russia, which the Kremlin has warned would be a dangerous escalation.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/08/world/europe/ukraine-russia-iran-missiles.html

Good thing that Russia buying Iranian ballistic missiles is not a dangerous escalation.

The withdrawal is not going well.  Apparently Russia tried to reach some sort of agreement with the US about their troops leaving the area but Ukraine is like 'fuck that' and started moving in on the Russians and since most bridges and crossings are destroyed a significant number of Russian troops are stuck.
