The funny thing about the Jon Stewart episode is that whenever I see it on something it usually cuts off the part where he's trying to make the point that neither "side" believes the argument they're making so it's all just jousting on air and that's the bad thing; for the part where he argues with Tucker Carlson over being a comedian vs. being a pundit and Stewart says he's hurting America.
When Pat Buchanan was on one of these shows and arguing a position, you rarely doubted it was Pat's actual position other than he was just giving the Republican the benefit of the doubt. The people ("Republican/Democratic strategist") they dredge up to fill the segments for the 24/7 cycle, you know it's otherwise because two months ago you saw them trashing Trump on some issue in favor of Cruz or whatever.
It's like Michael Savage vs. Sean Hannity (since they had a fight a few years back when their parent company swapped them on radio stations), Savage prefers the Republicans because they align with him and he hates Democrats more, but that wouldn't stop Savage from attacking Republicans who he thinks are terrible. Sean Hannity immediately will defend the GOP line and call it "true conservatism" or whatever. The best example of this actually being when Johm McCain won the nomination. Savage could never support him because McCain is semi-sane on immigration, so he didn't and mostly just said Obama was worse but McCain would be terrible too because they'd both let brown people invade. Hannity who would trash McCain constantly for being a RINO immediately shifted gears into war hero, REAGAN FOOTSOLDIER, etc. and then after election day immediately switched back to bashing McCain ever since.
Of course, this entire thing operates under the premise that Hannity getting three million viewers a night (half of which are Media Matters interns) is somehow linking up with Gamergate and destroying truth in this country which allowed Trump to win.
There's so many faults in the underlying assumptions to the argument that we might as well already call it Otisburg.
