I mean it's definitely a lot tougher to spread outside. Though Delta may have changed that since it's more transmissible.

There was a study a few months ago pre-Delta that said from contact tracing that only 1 out of 1,000 cases were from outdoor transmission and the other 999 were indoor transmission.

If you're face to face with someone talking there's still an issue, but generally outdoors around people the idea is it gets too diluted by the passing air.

My investigation into the delta varient continues.

I have observed a 98% mask usage in the street and disinfectant is plentiful.

However, bars and restaurants are full with little distancing.

Perhaps there is some connection between these observations and the increased spread?

My local county, the days leading up to mass July 4th gatherings case counts basically back to where they were pre-vaccinations for everyone under 65 (which started in late April).

Definitely prepared for the next month to get pretty bad here. Gonna start being more careful.

Not really, it's mostly the young people.

Our government opened everything and scrapped most regulations 3 weeks ago but now clubs are going to close again.
The youngsters were trading QR codes of negative tests and such and cheating on their COVID tests.

Also with our pace of vaccination the 20 - 25 year olds are just now getting invites for their first shot.

Also we're doing much more testing and thus we have more cases according to my boi in parliament who says everyone has gone c r a z y

68.4% of the total population have had at least one dose, but under 18's aren't eligible yet, so god knows what the % of eligible people is.

Totally pulling this out of my arse, but I'd guess the % who won't have it for most countries being somewhere between 10% and 20%, probably lower for some of the more 'complaint' nations.

Ontario is doing really well right now with 79% adults with first-dose and 53% second-dose. We are also vaccinating 250,000 a day. We are just getting to the point where it is fairly easy to get an appointment. A lot of current restrictions like no indoor dining and theaters are coming to an end next week after being in place since October. Overall Canada is doing good. We should surpass the US in second-doses next week and we are well above in the first-dose which is a very good sign for vaccine compliance.

I finally get to go back to the office Monday which has been closed since Sept.

Even if it was 383 new deaths vs half of that, 14,900 cases, you'd be looking at a current death rate of 0.03% (rounded up) - in comparison, the BMJ talk about a median 1% fatality rate during an influenza pandemic (source below). Granted, the current low Covid fatality rate is because of the rapid vaccination program and the actual virus itself is still a bishoptl tier cunt but that aside, the available data does support government schemes to start easing lockdown and allow herd immunity to develop.
