Yes. We are somewhat fucked. There is a social stigma regarding the virus on top of all the other problems, so the mentality around testing is also… distinguished mentally-challenged? Less effective? Stifled? I’m trying to think of the right word and failing. It’s so frustrating.

My sister has started harping on me to come back to the US and get a vaccination there. This plan completely fails to acknowledge that I am at risk for the entire time I am in-transit, including the three or four airports and four or five flights it will require to reach my mom‘s home.

I don't know, but my estimate is that it doesn't and it's just circumstancial because so many old people are vaccinated.

The plan is to reopen most of the country and hold a number of pilot events for up to 5000 people with quick tests. The cost of this pilot has been estimated at 1 billion.

Our 'third wave' has been pretty damn mild, with schools mostly open. Still less time there than usual, but very much open. Our health experts and boards predicted 800 would be in the hospital at the moment, with covid... It's not even 200. So we are finally opening up some more. Football stadiums about 30% capacity, yes moyes. Finally.

Our version of the CDC predicted 170k cases a month or something crazy like that.

But the vaccination effort is a complete shit show so now the planned April 28th reopenings (delayed from April 21st) will probably not go ahead.
What will go ahead is 925 million worth of quick tests to hold pilot events, concerts and parties, so called 'field labs'.
Although that is unraveling too considering there might be some corruption involved and our government would officially have to organize a bid for such a large and expensive endeavor.
But to save time they've decided to give an NGO with no oversight run by a former military commander from his home already 100 million for "consultancy" work.
