Minneapolis International Film Festival, here's what I saw.
The Sacrament - another slow build Ti West film, found footage horror that doesn't suck, and is in fact, quite good.
The Strange Color of Your Bodies Tears - Giallo homage that forgets to include plot or character in favor of amazing imagery, would probably have liked it better watching it at home. Makes a better museum installation piece then a movie.
Flashback Memories 3D - Performance documentary about Japan's greatest rock/jazz didgeridoo player and his personal struggles following a traumatic brain injury. Great music but not much of a film.
House of Wax 3D - 1953 Vinny Price version, actually a lot of fun in a well attended theater. Charles Bronson has never not looked like a weathered shit-kicker.
Me Too - Bone dry comedy about Russians desperately wanting to escape their crappy lives by heading out to a dodgy sounding salvation. Purposely overbearing soundtrack mixed with low-key style was not a good mix for me. I can't recommend it.
Blue Ruin - Homeless guy proves himself to be a clumsy assassin. Great twist on your standard revenge picture, could have been a great 70's film.
Why Don't You Play in Hell - More intermittently hilarious nihilism from Sion Sono. Waaaaaaay too long, but that gonzo last act makes up for a lot of sins.
Intruders - Comically bleak South Korean thriller. Writer accidentally befriends recently paroled ex-con on way to isolated forest cabin. Nothing bad ever happens in a cabin in the woods, right? My personal favorite film I saw at the fest.
