Let's goooooooooo!!!

Hopefully they take more cues on the character from the netflix show than from hawkguy

It's all down to the EP. I don't think Erik Oleson is coming back which is very very unfortunate, DD s3 was the tops.

Westworld Season 4 continues to impress. The subversions are actually well executed and the callbacks seem natural without being forced. Wouldn't call it smart scifi but it's hitting that perfect intersection of cool scifi concepts and well-produced drama. Things actually seem to be paying off at a decent clip, too.

I have a fear shmaltzy faux-Delores x Teddy stuff is gonna be what closes out the season on a "positive note for once," depends on the execution but I'm ok with that stuff only being a small percentage of the runtime so far. Intriguing, but not as interesting as the other plot threads going on.

Bernard being The Oracle is cute enough for now but if it goes on much longer without being "broken" ("I didn't see that coming!", etc.) I think it'll get annoying. The writers are basically writing in a huge deus ex machina and the storyteller in me doesn't care for it much. Plus it kinda feels like they're showing off how smart they are a little when it's not smart at all (just write backwards... Death Note takes the concept and actually makes it well-written, as a counter-example).

I’m liking it. The character pairings are fun. Bernard and Stubbs is the great romance of the show. Maeve and Jesse mesh well.

Big year for Metallica in TV shows!

Ms. Marvel was better than Moon Knight, but just barely and still pretty zzz.

Maybe they should try making a marvel show without any action scenes or villains. Because those parts were terrible in this (along with the worst CW level CG yet in a Marvel thing), whereas the character & family stuff was actually good.

I have a feeling she'll be better with better material and higher budget in The Marvels.

She Hulk should basically be Ally McBeal, but with wacky superhero stuff instead of baby crazy dream sequences, but it won't be.

There's tons of interesting legal stuff that could be examined from what living in the MCU would actually be like for normies - just the thanos snap stuff would have a ton of fucking lawsuits associated with people demanding backpay for while they were snapped / bartenders fighting charges of serving underage drinkers who had legit licences / messy divorces wanting prenups enforced because their spouse moved on, etc, of which I expect to see nothing

Ok, so in the comics, one of the original Captain Marvels pre-Carol Danvers, was basically a alien super being locked in the negative zone and this fanboy named Rick Jones who was there at the hulk gamma experiment that turned hulk into hulk, ends up at some point with these arm BANGLES called the negabands. When he would clank them together, he would swap places with Captain Marvel who would appear on earth and do superhero stuff, meanwhile Rick Jones would be trapped in the negative zone trying to survive, find a way out. Eventually he learns how to control it and swap on a dime and that's the gimmick with Rick Jones & Captain Marvel.

So

Considering that Ms. Marvel now has a bangle that makes her swap with MCU Captain Marvel, it just seems like they're pulling that Rick Jones/Captain Marvel storyline to use for The Marvels movie (except that Carol Danver Captain Marvel was probably not in the negative zone, just somewhere in the galaxy).

So, I had always ignored It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia because it seemed like one of those shows that Twatter and Resetera members use in place of an actual personality, but I bit the bullet and started it while I've been home from work with influenza.

I'm about 4 episodes in and...I actually really like this.

One of the best new shows I've seen recently. Pace and plotting are well done. My only concern is that I feel like S2 could end up in a trap that many new shows fall in, where you expand the world after S1 so much that you neglect loose ends or storylines.

From

The Lost influence is quickly felt, for the worst. It's worth peeping, later eps find their footing and the atmosphere is super interesting but I'm not expecting a coherent or complete ending to this...

Pretty fun. Gets kind of ridiculous in later eps but the cast and setting are great.

Yeah people do that with everything popular though lmao... Ive seen people on Twitter talk about a Halo streamer who was hired by 343i or works with them, and some people were saying dude is a shill and then you have others saying "Oh but his career is Halo he basically lives Halo everyday" and thats why he's a good hire.

Is Chapelwaite creepy/scary at all?

The short story it's loosely based on Jerusalem's Lot by Stephen King is super fucking good and creepy. One of his most creepy stories. I like Brody and since this is an adaptation of the story I wanna watch this when I have time, though it sounds like it's pretty different from the source material.

Always Sunny consistently kept topping itself in the first 10 seasons, I kept thinking "ok, that's the hardest I'll ever laugh at this show" but then a new season would pack in a bunch of moments that did.

Amazing long-form character writing for a serialized sitcom, as well, and not in a dramatic way like Scrubs etc al.

It's definitely creepy and there are a lot of horror elements. It reminds me a lot of Coppola's Dracula at times in terms of the horror and adventure elements. I wouldnt' say it's some great show but I enjoyed it.

Once Frank joins the gang in season 2, those things get ramped up.  That's also when the show started to get decent ratings, so I think FX gave them more leeway.

Was taken aback that it’s a multi season show. Not a limited series. The threads all felt they could be tied up in another episode or two.

Don’t know if Apple squeezes several seasons out of it. Got plenty of Emmy recognition. Except, and ordinarily I don’t care about awards shows, Tramell Tillman as Milchick should’ve gotten nominated.

Finished off Ms Marvel with my daughter. That's the best street level thing Marvel have ever done. They used the family drama to ground the whole thing so well. Loved it. Get that creative team on a movie ASAP.

The Marvels has gone from my last anticipated Marvel thing ever to probably the most anticipated.

I mean, coming from the parks & rec / Brooklyn 99 guy, starring craig robinson and having tim heidecker as a major recurring role, seems like more people would have checked it out?

The Rehearsal is hilarious. Nathan Fielder’s new show, so expect the same type of humor as Nathan For You. Narrows in on one subject the way his Finding Frances did. One caution, the people in the first episode are likely on the spectrum. I know some are sensitive about humor involving autism. Here, I saw the jokes at the expense of Nathan and his antics. They’re leaning into him being a total sociopath.

Only two episodes into The Afterparty. Not feeling it yet. Heard a lot of praise and the concept is fun. Whodunnit where each testimony is presented as a movie genre matching the characters’ personalities. Just not clicking. I’ll check back in with it from time to time.

Watched an ep and half of the flix resident evil series and besides some names and the odd logo, it seems like a waste of a licence so far. Maybe that changes i dunno.

Btw its standard Netflix it's fine 6.5/10 fare, so far.

The Old Man is pretty great.
I like how they just used a good younger actor for the flashbacks instead of doing a Tron de-aging of Jeff Bridges. Gary Oldman had a spy show on Apple a few months back that looked interesting but ended up being more cornball than I wanted. This is more my style and closer to John le Carre.

I'll check that out, I assumed they were doing that thing where they'll tease the first episode on Youtube but they'll probably have it on their website after all.

As disgusted as I am by the 24/7 Marvel talk, this is actually really impressive if you were able to cold pull that from your brain after all that time.

Watched an ep and half of the flix resident evil series and besides some names and the odd logo, it seems like a waste of a licence so far. Maybe that changes i dunno.

Btw its standard Netflix it's fine 6.5/10 fare, so far.

Just based entirely off screen caps that I've seen, it seems like another show ruined by very-online writers. I feel like this kinda ties into weirdos who complain about "woke" art nonstop. TV/film/etc have had political or social messages for decades. The problem now is that a lot of young writers don't read shit. Their frame of reference, their core...are tumblr posts. Tweets. And because they don't read and have no real prose style, they mimic the social media conversations they've been consuming for the last decade. Where everything is as overt as being hit in the head with a bag of anvils.

Yeah... this is in my top 3 TV scenes of all time.

Been ruminating on this since I saw this post. Don’t know about top three but three moments I think about often.

Resident Evil was alright as the kind of show you just pay half attention to but it really doesn't have much in common with the source material. The timeline split is also more annoying than cool. Usually if done right, the flashbacks should inform you about things that then play a crucial role in the future, or vice versa, but this is totally ignored here. It's more like two parallel storylines that just happen.

The show also gets worse towards the finale as characters keep making dumber and dumber decisions while the plot doesn't really move forward

I keep hearing Westworld S4 is good but I dont know if I have the patience to drag myself through S3 which everyone says is terrible

Same situation with Stranger Things

yeah fam only way I try Westworld again is if you can just pick up series 4 without any knowledge of series 3 and not have really missed out on anything that matters to the story :trumps

Which I very much doubt.

I can’t attest to Westworld (haven’t seen past the first season), but Stranger Things season 4 is excellent, leans harder into horror than the previous seasons, and the writing is more consistent as well.

I think I said ITT, but Stranger Things season 4 isn't just the best season since the first, it might actually be the best season (will need some time to settle on this)

I think it depends what you want out of it.  Season 1 had some real horror elements, tension and mystery while season 4 is just pure pulpy fun from start to end.
