Yup... it's that weird combo of light hearted / edgy that can be fun if you get into the mood. If you wanted to watch the main character mourn for 8 episodes I'm not sure you are watching the right show.
Then it shouldn't try to have its heartfelt moments, too.
If you undermine the emotional depth of your characters in the name of edgy fun, you cant expect me to care about the straight man's internal conflicts.
I wouldn't expect a character epiphany when i watch Crank.
This constantly bounces from trashy fun to attempting poignancy, i think it should stick to one.
I did call it "entertaining", anyway.
