Again, I say, this is the most pointless generation of consoles ever.
What is the purpose of these things aside from playing higher definition remakes of games already released or games being released on previous generation consoles?
Nothing this gen needed these consoles in order to be played. It's not even like the experience of a particular game on the current gen is really any better than the previous gen either.
I mean, a lot of the games I have been playing on my PS5 which are cross-gen
...I wouldn't have wanted to play them on PS4.
Getting 60fps instead of 30fps and some extra anti-alaising, higher resolution, some added effects...is still a pretty good experience. Like Rahx said, PS5 is PS4 Super Pro or something most of the time, but I was fine buying a PS4 Pro for the better versions (like buying a new gpu every 3-4 years) and I'm fine with PS5 doing that as well.
Don't forget these new consoles PS5 and XSX are also 4K BD players. The average price for a decent 4K BD player is like $500-800. If you have a 4K tv and still watch physical media movies, this is a big plus to the systems value-wise.
Plus, non-cross-gen is coming. I'm sorry, but in 5 years we're still not going to be playing cross-gen PS4 games outside rare stuff from Japan. Meanwhile this gen is gonna easily last 8-10 years because of the pandemic delay. Hold your horses, plenty of time.
And games still look good so I'm not gonna complain. I mean Horizon 2, while I don't like the game much, is one of the best looking games on the market and it's a cross-gen game.
