Magic Johnson what is you doing?
Quote
When told that this is a different job than being the point guard who orchestrated the Lakers' "Showtime" dynasty, Johnson reminded people of who he is.

"I'm Magic Johnson. I am still the same dude," he said. "I am not going to change. No pressure on me. I am going to do my job. That's what I do. I do my job. I'm excited. It's fun. I am looking forward to it."

Thankfully(from my perspective) it seems like they won't have the money to sign him anymore.

They have basically burned through their cap space according to Marks on ESPN and into their room exception.

Rumor is Boogie probably didn't want a one year deal.

The prospect of Bron, Kawhi and Boogie all in purple and gold was to good to be true :'(

Yeah they are just filling out the team. With Lebron signing a 4 year deal, that was a discussion between him and the front office that next year they will go for another big free agent and just roll with what they have for this season.

It's probably a good thing to not over-pay for Kawhi with a gun to your head.

It's too bad that the LeBron signing had to be overshadowed by the signing of John Tavares by the Leafs.

I have never rooted for the Lakers in my life. As a kid i chose the Stockton Malone Jazz partially as my team because they were opposing the end of the Showtime era Lakers (my californian cousins are all big lakers fans). But really, as a foreigner I watch whatever team i like. Boogie, Kawhi, Stephenson, McGee and Bron sounds like a riot (possibly literally).

actually thinking about it rather than snarking, i kinda quite like the Knicks current situation of playing the "second or third draft" market, Kanter, Hezonja, Beasley, Trey Burke, etc. And both Beasley and Burke they did fairly long background checks, talking to recent teams/players about if the players legit matured and got themselves out of their way, etc.

Similarly, been wondering if Andray Blatche might pop up again soon since his China deal is done. Would rather have him around to tinker with than Anthony Randolph who totally wasn't that great in Yurop even if he cut down on his stupid mistakes.

The best part about JaVale McGee's return is that he's almost totally the same dude and that's seemingly why the Warriors wanted him. :lol

Quote from: André Snellings, ESPN Fantasy
It all comes down to the ring. If LeBron leads the Lakers to a title, then it is a huge benefit to his legacy. This would be the third team he has led to a championship, and he'd have done it for the most glamorous organization in the league. But he must lead it to that title. Anything short of that and one of the most rabid fan bases in the NBA would be disappointed and the King's legacy would be tarnished in ways it wouldn't have been had he stayed in Cleveland. This was a high-risk, high-reward move for LeBron, who has set himself up to be compared to the ghost of Kobe Bryant every day from now until he wins a ring.

People say there's no underlying justice to the operation of the universe but:

1. Jack has root for LeBron James now.
2. Stoney has to watch more Lakers games now than a person has to watch because the NBA forces people to watch a certain amount of Lakers games without regard for their quality of play.
3. Every Kobe hater who latched onto Bron to hide what they were instead of just being like bionic77 was (is?) with Jeffrey has to either pretend to like the Lakers now or admit they were frauds.
4. The Lakers get the greatest player to be swept twice in the NBA Finals (dare you to prove me wrong).
5. Jeanie Buss gets vindication for icing her failson brother from the job he got because he was best friends with his dad.

:bow The universe. :bow2
what about the lebron haters who just happened to be kobe fans  :doge

I always liked Randle. Strictly an inside player with no outside game which isn't ideal in the modern age but I thought he had a really good motor everytime I saw him play.

Yeah fit wise I'm a little surprised because AD thrives much better when he has shooters drawing defenders away from the rim, but I do like Randle.

I honestly could see the Pels doing it if he's still hanging out after the bigger pieces fall into place.

Demps has a love affair with undersized guards. Who better than Thomas to satisfy that itch?

They ain't trading Lonzo this year unless its part of the Kawhi deal. He has too much value specifically for them. He's a PG who can still pass but doesn't need to be ball dominant.

Supposedly the Spurs aren't very high on Lonzo (for obvious reasons) but I bet they could get a first round pick for him from another team and kick it to the Spurs.

Something along those lines could work but yeah it would have to figure into the Kawhi thing. They wouldn't just move him to move him.

How to almost completely destroy the joy I felt in getting LeBron: let Randle go for absolutely nothing and watch him get signed for $9m a year.

I’m so furious.

Unless there is something else that hasn't dropped yet, like a sign and trade for Boogie, I really dont get what it is you all are doing outside of signing Lebron??

If you asked me yesterday what is next for the Lakers in FA after getting Lebron, signing Javale McGee, Lance Stephenson, and renouncing Randle to sign Rajon Rondo would of not been in any of my speculation.

Yeah I mean none of it is long-term anchors like Cleveland got themselves in, still, I'm kind of wondering about the combined brain trust of Magic and Lebron building out this roster. It's incredibly odd.

Even on 1 year deals, there seems to have been a lot of better routes to go. IDK. FA is still young.

Yeah, they honestly don't need Cousins to win a chip, but if he's even half the player he was then it's a wrap for the rest of the league come playoff time.
