I watched a bit of pools. I think best thing I saw was two kids who were not great flail around for a bit. Everyone on stream and commentators kinda laughed it off, then next up realized they left w/o de-synching their controllers causing further delay.  :doge

I pretty much just watched that Punk/Prototype match, stopped watching, came back to watch Arc show off the Kill La Kill game for a little bit (It's an arena fighter with pretty simple mechanics and some cool stuff, but ultimately looks too simple for anyone to take seriously, methinks), then stopped.

Might check some of the finals out tomorrow if I get a chance.  Dunno what I really care about watching on Sunday apart from SFV, and that's going to start too late at night for me to be able to see it all live.

MVCI top 4 last night was really good last night with some weird moments. Cyber Japan Agent is on another level with that game and shows off some really cool shit.

• Nine, Izayoi, Mai will be joining from BlazBlue.
• Yuzuriha, Mika, Merkava from Under Night In-Birth.
• Akihiko, Mitsuru, Labrys from Persona.

But it looks like they're about to announce some more!

They're about to do a stream at Barfights and are saying something big will be announced there.

There's a new game "? ? ?" for 2019 though, are they not going to announce a game?

Not expecting Arc to announce a brand new game at like 2 AM PST when the announcement will supposedly be taking place.  Hope that's not true and it's much earlier.

Smash 4 finals were a bit of a blow up. :lol GF ended up being Bayo vs Bayo and the crowd revolted over it. A mix of them walking out and those that remained were booing the match. At some point one of the players purposely jumped off the side in game and one of the sets started with them having a conversation with each other and just holding neutral B (to piss off the crowd that was booing them) until a TO had to get on stage and ask them to keep playing.

Evo live was ok. I’m just not a big fan of watching videogames, and just like normal sports I’d rather play a match against a friend than watch a match of the world’s top players, in terms of fun.
But the very final matches were pretty exciting and there were some good moments throughout.

The bracket thing is weird and makes the top8 take fucking forever. Not a fan of that part. Almost fell asleep a few times during T7, it was just so long with the same players over and over. I could never watch a match of Tekken again and be happy at this point.

Also live there’s no commentary which makes it less interesting to me. I tried bringing headphones and listening to the stream commentators and the stream was like 5 second delay so it wouldn’t work when watching live which sucked.

Probably won’t go again, but it did make me excited to go home and play some online matches.

Actually in the hotel in a lot of the rooms I’d walk by I’d hear arcade buttons tapping and groups of people shouting and having fun.

I think I’d like Evo more if it was like with a group of people that like playing fighting games and we bring a console and controllers/sticks and just play a bunch. I love playing fighting game for hours locally with friends. The metagames between your local friend groups are the best. Like one player gets real good at a tactic with a character and then another player learns how to shut them down consistently. It’s exciting. I never get that from online vs with randoms.

I'm the same way.  I don't watch tournaments very often (Evo and FR are about it) and never got into watching that kind of stuff very much.  But it does depend on the game- Guilty Gear is pretty awesome to watch and the finals are the best, IMO.  Marvel was awesome too.  Lots of insane, insane comebacks or wins that seem almost impossible to pull off.  Smash is boring as fuck to watch.  Looks like two people spazzing out and jumping around all day.  Snore.  Tekken isn't very exciting to me at all to watch.  Street Fighter is a mixed bag and it really depends on the players.

What's the point of going if you're just going to sit in a hotel room and play games? Might as well stay home.  Pretty sure EVO has lots to do besides take part in tournaments.  I wouldn't go unless I was going to compete, though.

Watching Majin play King was the most exciting part of the tournament to me. Like Shaheen vs. Devil Jin put me to sleep sure but I don’t think I ever heard that arena as loud as when Majin was rolling perfects with King.

I haven’t played Tekken since the Arcade 4 days and I almost bought 7 last night.

They were getting hype for Lil Majin because he's an American player.  And I get it- when Lost Soul was getting those wins in Guilty Gear, I was glued to the screen.  Kind of didn't care about the grand final after he lost.  I like seeing new people get wins.  Am interested in checking out SFV now (3.5 hours?  Uhh...maybe will skip through some of it) since Problem X won it for the first time.

Was really glad to see Ono pop up at midnight EST so I could check out G and Sagat, then go to bed.   :doge

What I saw in GG did actually make me want to play it more, but generally what gets me hype are new content announcements.

BB Cross-Tag getting nine new characters today?  And characters I actually want to use this time around?  Yessir.  Will start playing again.

SFV getting two new characters today?  Good stuff and nice to see what was a lackluster Season 3 over with.  Hoping that G and/or Sagat will be really viable characters.

Tekken getting some game play changes and new characters?  Cool, will check it out...especially since Anna was a main in T6 and TTT2.  But I'm more interested in Soul Calibur.

Fighting Layer getting more content is also welcome since it really NEEDS it, lol.

So, more content for existing games now, then SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy in a month, then October is Soul Calibur VI and December is Smash?  Nice to have things to look foward to.

Bork, yeah I gotta check the GG finals. GG is my favorite in the lineup but making them at 8am in the morning was  :'(

Like Bork said, a lot of that was that the crowd would generally go nuts every time a USA player was winning because home court.

Also watching King play at high level made me wonder if throw escapes are really a good thing in fighting games. At high level when 9/10 times the opponent will throw escape, it neutralizes throws and for grappler characters like King that means losing half of their strength. At lower levels of play throw escapes are much less consistent so grapplers are much stronger characters.

Like in B.B. Cross Tag, a lot of people were playing big claw arm guy for the throws. If you could throw escape all those he’d probably be dropped for someone else.
