I live in the Midwest (not really planning on getting more specific).

It’s not so bad, other than everybody cares lot about the local football team and knows the name of every head coach the program has ever had. On the plus side, game day is a great day to go to Costco.

Also, whenever I go visit family everyone asks me if We drove there and I have to explain that “no, I didn’t not drive 20 hours each way over a four day weekend and that I flew in a plane like a normal person.”

Since I live in a city, (albeit a smallish one) I don’t feel like I’m missing out on too much culturally or cuisine wise. Like they pretty much have everything a bigger city has but just less of it. I can go see a broadway musical, even a popular one, but I gotta wait a few years. I don’t really care about that either.

The main drawbacks are that
1) pay is lower, in general
2) the job market is sort of small
3) my top 20 mba sometimes seems sort of worthless because there’s literally like 4 or 5 graduates in the state. I do still run into people that go “oh that’s a good school”... FYI, I think it’s total credentialism that I took part in knowingly.

The pros are:
1) the job market thing kind of cuts both ways. It can be hard to find a spot or switch companies, but once you find something good there’s not many people gunning for your spot because it can be hard to hire from outside. There’s no revolving door of some asshole from some other company that keeps getting hired to be your boss and staying on for only 2 years.
2) cost of living. Sometimes I realize I probably make a good 20-30k less than I should for my responsibility level compared to other places I’ve worked, but also realize I’d need to make a lot more than that to afford a 2,000 square foot house with a basement on a quarter acre back in DC or Seattle
3) I got kids anyway, so I’m going to be in the suburbs no matter what. I prefer a 20 minute commute to an hour one.

Living in the midwest is so underrated.

I wouldn't go that far, but it does have more upsides than it's generally given credit for. But only if you live within an hour of a major metro. "Fly over states" is no joke. If you've ever made the drive across country, there are multiple 100+ mile stretches where there is literally nothing. No services, no off ramps, no farms, no windmills, no solar panels, no cities, no towns, just empty land. If you aren't an hour driving distance from Indy/St. Louis/Chicago/Cincy you're basically in a dead zone and then the Mid West is as bad as its reputation would seem.

There’s definitely more cities that are ok to live near than that. I’d say basically any of the Midwest cities that have about a million or more in the metro area will have almost  all of the creature comforts you’re used to outside of really niche cuisines,  and high end luxury stores.

That said, I can count the number of times I’ve driven more than an hour from  the city with the intention of stopping at something that wasn’t in another, larger metro area on one hand.

Lots of people I work with are from east bumblefuck and barely saw a stop light until moving here.

I wasn’t sure about the el Salvadoran and Puerto Rican food, but a quick google search tells me the answer is yes.

Pretty much everything else on the list there are many options around town. In a small town obviously you won’t have that shot.

Food variety is shit in the midwest unless you live in the biggest cities. Even then, you're at the mercy of what ethnicity immigrated to your area and was it (the amount of people) big enough to support multiple restaurants.

I used to be weird about Midwest sushi until I learned that in the us, all raw fish served in the us has to be previously frozen except for Tuna.

Now that most seafood is delivered by air, I find I can get a lot of stuff fresh. Shit, I can buy live Dungeness crab from the Asian market here.

Nowadays with the global supply chain, a lot of times the seafood you eat even right next to the ocean isn’t necessarily local anyway.

There's a solution to all this. Libs that live nice city dwelling lives need to take themselves and plunk down in places like Montana, Kansas, Wyoming, etc.

Why doesn't half of Hollywood and New York elite do this? Buy primary residences in these states? They could easily flip some of these districts with low populations. They can turn some of these places into 'Portlands'

What a stupid fucking post.

The solution is to carpet bomb everything west of Harrisburg and east of Las Vegas and then declare it a national forest.

This is my life and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

You're in a dead zone and you love it? I mean, I like my solitude and privacy and being able to go days at a time without seeing anyone if I choose, but I also like not having to drive 45 minutes to buy milk.

I'm more than an hour from the cities listed but I don't need to drive 45 minutes to get milk. We have a grocery store in town. I've got 3 towns that are much larger within 30 mins max on 3 sides, one of which I commute to for work. My nearest Costco is like an hour away, but we really only make that trip maybe once a month. I can afford to put the vast majority of my income toward retirement and my mortgage. Life is fucking good.

The weirdest part in that 60 minutes interview has to be about what he learned.

"I used to talk about bringing in killers from the real estate business. They're babies compared to the people in Washington"

"These politicians are vile, mean, lying, vicious people. You make a deal and they don't honor the deal. They talk behind your back these are horrible people [...]"

"So I'm pretty comfortable"

And dems think they can run with her.... he'll eat her alive like he will with most of the dems. This is a case where you can only fight fire with fire and yet liberals don't get it, they simply do not fucking get it.

But it’s entirely consistent with what she has always said. She said she had a Native American ancestor 6-10 generations back. 8 generation back would give her less than half a percent.

Arguably she undersold her Native American ancestry.

I think the idea is to avoid a situation where mainstream news coverage is saturated with headlines like "As Controversy Builds And People Seek Answers, Warren Tries To Change The Subject."

No idea if it's the optimal strategy, but her guess is as good as mine. I find DNA testing to be kind of tacky to begin with, and moreso when that's not how the various nations define membership, but I also understand that not doing this would be treated by a lot of the media as "ducking the issue." It's had legs as a controversy only because so many white people think that being a racial minority is like finding a golden Wonka ticket.

Also literally every single white person from Oklahoma has family lore about native heritage.

I don't have sympathy for fucks like that, sorry. I knew a girl that pulled this same shit to get into a prominent University. Her grandfather ended up marrying a Native American as a second wife after his first wife died or something and then she gets the right to use it? Her grades were not sufficient enough to get in and here she was accepted on the basis of this.

She should have just apologized for claiming to be native American, saying she believed her grandma, but even still, as a well off white woman, she should not have used it to try and gain an advantage. It's her L and she needs to hold it. What she did is gross as fuck.

Wait, was Donald Duck anatomically correct all this time? I thought it was artistic license.

Ducks, for one, are outliers within the avian population. Unlike 97 percent of birds, ducks have penises — super-long ones. They are among the best endowed (in terms of ratio of body to member) of all vertebrates. For example, the 1-pound, foot-long Argentinian lake duck has the longest of all with a member that is 4 inches longer than its body.

Duck penises regrow every mating season. Once the season ends, the penis begins to shrink and regress until it’s 10 percent of its full-grown size. They are stored inside the duck’s body, waiting to emerge only during copulation. “The process generally resembles a cross between using your arm to evert a sweater sleeve that is inside out and unfurling the soft, motorized roof of a convertible sports car with a hydraulic drive,” writes Prum.

The duck penis is not straight, but spirals counterclockwise (!) from its base to its tip. The Muscovy duck penis completes six to 10 full twists over its 20-centimeter (7.8-inch) length.

“Like a selection of sex toys from a vending machine in a strange alien bar,” writes Prum, “duck penises come in ribbed, ridged and even toothy varieties” to hook into a female’s reproductive tract, which is as long and convoluted as the penis.

Shit, top of the page. So Elizabeth Warren. If I laugh at this have I been indoctrinated? Warren made a mistake many years ago when she marked herself as a Native American on official documents. But if you're on the left, and especially if you're a woman, you're not allowed any mistakes. So she tries to cover it up by saying that she got her jobs without using it, not noticing or caring that this plays directly into anti affirmative action ideas, and taking a DNA test, which does nothing but make her look out of touch. Then again, I guess she's not in a position to own her original mistake, blast PC purity culture, and make a stand in favor of some measure of forgiveness.

damn and she has to pay his legal fees :heh

remember avanatti wanting to run for president? :neogaf

Stormy actually had at least two cases out against trump.

Only one was thrown out. This is kind of bad reporting since the headline lacks that context.

Well actually both cases are still going because the one that was thrown out has been appealed.

Otero, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush in 2003, wrote in his decision that Trump posted the tweet “as a rejoinder against an individual challenging him in the public arena.”

This is the definition of projected rhetorical hyperbole,” Otero ruled.
is this judge a mod on REE :mynicca

So I just caught up on today's events....
- Warren does DNA test
- Launches cringe-worthy Presidential campaign ad with a focus on her heritage
- Challenges Trump to donate to a charity because she did what he joked about during a GOP debate
- Graham, Hatch and other Republicans troll her all day
- Cherokee Nation throws out DNA test as useless
- Trump rubs that in her face on Twitter
- She calls Trump a 'racist'

is Trump racist against whites now?

What the fuck is Warren thinking  :dead

Not a lawyer, but to say that you can’t defame someone I’d you are arguing over twitter seems like a stretch

Going on TV to ridicule the President and writing a book about Trump's private parts before the ruling probably has something to do with it.
And Avenatti is basically as much as a fraud as Cohen.

I can see why the judge didn't want to spend his valuable time on this 'case'. Which in hindsight looks more like a book promotion.
