I don't have first hand experience but I'd imagine a monogamous person would have more often some difficulties integrating a "real" polyamorous group (where more than two people are all in relationships with one another) which by definition isn't monogamous. One sided open relationships are also not the most solid in general. I think a lot of squares overestimate / are overoptimistic on how they would handle libertinage and that's why a lot of polyamorous or non monogamous people are being upfront about it.
