/r/the_donald just made itself private to protest reddit removing its mods :rofl

subredditdrama thread here https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/6c7pvx/reddit_admins_remove_three_reddit_users_from/

they tried to migrate to voat but the voat userbase hates them for not being racist enough: http://i.imgur.com/pF0yd4H.jpg

This is the single greatest witch hunt of a subreddit in American history!

t_d is being treated unfairly

After they put in special rules just for t_d, a ton of anti-t_d subreddits started up and began spamming r/all in the same way the_donald had. Their forum kept getting brigaded. The admins were resetting their threads back to 0 to keep them off of /all. You could refresh a page and see their upvote count drop to nothing.

It is pretty much biased political interference on a major social media site. In the end, it will backfire on those doing it.

So the worshipers of a thin-skinned, incompetent, racist manbaby like Trump just happen to also be thin-skinned, incompetent, racists manbabies? And they retreated from the subreddit to an to an even worse hive of scum and villainy in voat only to be thoroughly rejected by another group of rejects?

Cuz they're shitposters. They'd claim they were raising the dead if it upset the right people.

the_donald is being treated unfairly by being targeted?

You mean the same subreddit that had admitted to having bots make certain threads hit /all in seconds? The same subreddit that openly raids other sites/subreddits without being removed? The same subreddit that has coordinated doxxing efforts against people IRL and Reddit admins?

 That the_donald?

Are there some links I could check for these? Can't recall seeing suggestions of open raids on other subs nor of openly admitting to bot manipulation. They've had to be careful with posting anything doxx related since it's against their rules and Reddit's. I've seen threads deleted by their own mods over it, though not the kind that was coordinated.

they tried to migrate to voat but the voat userbase hates them for not being racist enough: http://i.imgur.com/pF0yd4H.jpg

Voat already has their own version of the t_d that has different rules. Voat in general is a pretty shit place. Besides that though there's no way a transition would work since Voat only displays two levels of child comments deep and can't keep up with surges in traffic, resulting in frequent "maintenance" periods.

Because t_d is a lolcow for kiwifarms and they're pointing out/mocking all the shit t_d & t_d affiliated users do in that thread.

edit: Also, I'm buzzed and tired and don't really feel like putting too much effort into explaining why t_d is comprised of shitheads.

I guess I don't see how mocking t_d has anything to do with what people asked about so called evil deeds of t_d. You posted the_donald posters going to other subreddits. That happens to t_d as well. You posted on brigade request that looks like it got kileld at 5 comments.

And then you posted the latest form of kiwifarms targeting t_d. For those uninitiated:

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/sites/kiwi-farms

Quote
On June 29th, 2016, 19-year-old Julie TerryBerry was found dead after hanging herself at her home in Ontario, Canada. Following her death, many speculated that the Kiwi Farms documentation of her online life may have contributed to her suicide.[7][8] On July 19th, NY Mag’s Select/All published an article titled “Kiwi Farms, the Web’s Biggest Community of Stalkers,”[2] which accused the Kiwi Farms community of choosing targets out of a disdain for the mentally ill.

Not sure I understand the video. They're saying the users with the downvotes in the red are raiding from t_d? Can't check their post history since posts from the sub are hidden from profiles while it's private but sourcing the original Maddow thread the comments from those users were just regular posts, nothing outlandish about them. Not sure how a raid is just regular people commenting, honestly.

The second link's OP was banned for that archived thread apparently and had so few replies it doesn't seem to suggest they actively coordinate raids. From looking at the story behind the r/Sweden thing in the other link it began by both of them fueding with memes earlier last year, which eventually escalated to the point that the influx of spammy memes from t_d's side reached a tipping point resulting in the Swedish sub closing for a day after which the submissions subsided.

They apparently have some mods with awful posts and there's a lot of 4chan cross-pollination in terms of the type of vibe but after hearing so many negative things leading up to the election it caused me to check the sub for a period to get a sense of what they were on about and was rather surprised that it wasn't all it was made out to be. To me there seems to be a mix of people who aren't racist, those who are closet and overt racists (to a degree which won't get them banned), some stereotypical conservatism kicked up to meme-level, some who buy into conspiracies and others from the community who argue for more evidence.

From my observations the community also appears to have posers, outsiders and new registrations who stir the pot with ban-worthy/obviously controversial comments/submissions with an ever-so-subtle hint of mockery, either posting as experiments to see who would agree with them or perhaps to deliberately contribute to the controversy of the sub. They often end up banned.

IDK, there are certainly some problematic areas, mostly the subtle and not-so-subtle racism of various posters (though this isn't everyone I've seen), upvoting certain submissions that mightn't have strong evidence for it, and general trollish wanking around, but of the negative impressions you get from outside I'd kind of expect it to be worse tbh.

Much of the front-page is anti-the_donald stuff, specifically stating and targeting the subreddit. It is targeted harassment according to the reddit admins standard, I'd assume. Why does it only matter when someone accuses t_d of doing it?

All you've done is said shit and little backing it up. I know it's true that the admins reset their upvote count to zero because I tested it by refreshing their page. Reddit is open that they screwed with their upvoting to deter t_d while many other worthless, anti-donald subreddits bot and manipulate their way into /all.

I only use t_d to check in on what the internet donald nuts are saying. Most of the time, its just shitposting, rah-rah, and memes. For as much negative attention as it gets, its really unexceptional. It's just silly shit amped up by a ton of users.

I think about this board. Before joining I'd lurked years ago and seen posters here mock and insult trans posters from GAF and various other non-PC jazz but I doubt posters here would say that's what the Bore represents if asked (or perhaps they would :doge), since one could also see the humor and other worthwhile aspects . One could compile posts and make some case The Bore is trash. Or pick the worst of GAF/4chan/etc and say it's all bad (and probably be right about various things) but there are also posters and aspects which are fine. GAF has even doxxed at times and still inexplicably sees themselves as being above such behavior. There are degrees to which every community has negatives. It's no so much that a place like t_d doesn't have its share of bullshit but rather it seems to me some aspects are overblown to make some more general political point.

Everything has shit done on it. The nature of reddit means you can hop in, spread crap and just make another account once pushed out. I browse /nba a lot, and people post fake sports reports there, the mods delete them and move on, but I'm sure someone could spam the subreddit with that stuff, screenshot it and state the subreddit allows false sports reports. It's easy to manipulate. The only defense against it is having the public be far more savvy about the nature of the net than they are.

It's truly amazing how clueless people act about the internet's nature when they constantly use it. It's like that Louis CK joke about cellphones and how the signal travels to space and back, but the users are frustrated by a second delay. People use twitter to try to get famous because it broadcasts to the entire world, and then express shock when that very same nature means the world can tell them to fuck off.

And yeah, people here have posted awful stuff. Why do you think so many keep changing their username?

To understand how Democrats started falling for this stuff so quickly, I turned to three scholars: Dartmouth’s Nyhan, the University of Exeter’s Jason Reifler, and Temple’s Kevin Arceneaux. The three of them all work in a burgeoning subfield of political science, one that focuses on how people form political beliefs

Quote
I’m worried? Alarmed? Disheartened is the right word — disheartened by the degree to which the left is willing to accept conspiracy theory claims or very weakly sourced claims about Russia’s influence in the White House,” Reifler says.

The basic thing you need to understand, these scholars say, is that political misinformation in America comes principally from partisanship. People’s political identities are formed around membership in one of two tribes, Democratic or Republican. This filters the way they see the world.

“Misinformation is much more likely to stick when it conforms with people’s preexisting beliefs, especially those connected to social groups that they’re a part of,” says Arceneaux. “In politics, that plays out (usually) through partisanship: Republicans are much more likely to believe false information that confirms their worldview, and Democrats are likely to do the opposite.”

The left has mainstream cable news and networks, the blogosphere, plenty of social media presence, the printed press, and entertainment/Hollywood. (Which gives them pop culture television)

You also are talking about a "political media ecosystem". That's all media now. The news business is about telling people what they want to hear on both sides. News channels are mostly op-ed and entertainment. If the left didn't have a strong news eco-system liek the right, then they'd be out of business.

CNN isn't the left's Fox News in the same nature as Fox News. It just plays its part. The comment was about a liberal news eco system with which false or bad info spreads as it does on the right. It does so via the information(and really opinion) avenues I listed.

I think is clear is that is mostly about the ratings and the advertisers for the News Networks than spreading desinformation for the sake of it or reporting news. Even O Reilly bites the dust if the pressure is high enough and the network doesnt get enough money from his air time anymore.

The thing is that Fox News is so blatant and unapolagetic in its misinformation that has a shit standard on its own.

Idk, MSNBC is pretty close to being a part of the DNC from the hours of 5PM-midnight during the week.
Even then I don't see the equivalent.

Fox, Breit-bart(with Trump in the WH), and talk radio, and pretty much all major America right-wing media is just partisan party advocacy dressed up as news. There are no credible journalistic standards involved. No strict ideological standards like you see from places like The Economist or Democracy Now. They bend, contort, and morph to whatever the party is pushing at the moment.  if it isn't straight textbook propaganda, it is damn close.

As obnoxious as some of the MSNBC shows get, and the occasional  :neogaf moments. Like Maddow's Trump tax kerfuffle. At its root it doesn't function on that same wavelength. It's for-profit left leaning news.

Plus the biggest distinction I see is that if you are in the right-wing bubble, there is pretty much no outlet that has credibility as a true news organization or has a passable level of standards. I guess WSJ, but really it has always been a pretty stark line between the editorial and the reporting side.

If you think any major outlet has cred at this point then you haven't been paying attention.

I think PBS News Hour is still pretty legit, but nobody brings them up because nobody watches actual news.

Perfect case and point to what I just said lol.

Breit-Bart, Fox, Drudge(and I suspect there will be no mention of this Monday on Talk radio) all conveniently ignoring what was a scandal for years when Obama did it.  Just like the Comey firing flip-flop the other week.

Nah:

There is a chasm in the quality difference between the two camps. The right basically puts trust in talking heads, Fox News and Drudge. The left gets a pretty healthy dose of credible news, and none of them are really at the garbage tier of most of what the right consumes.

Yes, polls. They were very useful for the election.

Meanwhile, every site has gone tabloid to survive. They must surely be trusted.

Q: Do you think youth trust WSJ after the pewdiepie thing? I doubt it.

edit: Might as well, but still a poll

Every site ET, every site? Pure tabloid? Sounding like a typical right-wing partisan ET. Trying to create a false equivalence where one doesn't exist.

Complete with "polls aren't to be trusted"......."Here look at this poll I just found" argument.

But really, MSM is such a relative term that it is pretty hard to discern too much from polls like that. Though it does sort of fall into line with what I just posted in that the right seems to not trust anything but their shit-tier echo chamber.
