Ah, so like, chapter selection. I don't think it would make it any easier TBH.
I wouldn't think so either.  After you beat a chapter, it unlocks a permanent (but random) shortcut... But it's usually advised to not do that if you want to build up your arsenal adequately.  I have to fully run through just to even reach the 3rd boss.  That 3rd biome is flippin brutal with it's mobs.  Every vid I've watched on how to get past it, their health bar is doubled in size and have some level 20 shit with some shield that blocks everything.  :doge Well, of course you had no problem defeating it.  ::)

Save scumming may actually be a thing.   Someone on REEEEEEEEEEEE posted:

Quote
Ok, I reinstalled the game to try out the new "suspend cycle", for science.

So, save scumming works perfectly as you would expect. And in fact, it's now been streamlined: when on the PS5 home screen and on top of the game icon, press OPTIONS, then UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD SAVED DATA, and you'll have the two needed functions right there in the same screen, UPLOAD or DOWNLOAD. It really couldn't be easier.

A few notes of stuff I noticed while retrying a couple of times:

Room layout is the same, so this appears to be randomized only when first entering the biome, not when retrying from your save
Chests, Obolite chunks, resins, keys all appear in the same places and with the same malignant status, so also not random
But interestingly, destroyable walls are random, although it appears that if a room has a destroyable wall, it will also have one when scumming, just in a different part of the room
Enemy composition is random, you won't face the same enemies when scumming
Although you can also suspend with enemies around, so if you've already triggered an enemy wave, it's the same enemies when you reload
Dropped loot from enemies (items, weapons, parasites) is random
    Chest contents are random
    Fabricator stuff is random
Terror image Splash screens when reloading are random
Parasites on the ground are not random, they have fixed bonuses and maluses
Bonus rooms entrances are not random, but the bonus room itself is random
Didn't try it, but since the Obolite repository is tracked online, you could save scum right before depositing obolites, reloading and depositing again until full to get an item

Save-scummers rejoice! The time it takes from pressing the PS button, closing the game, downloading your data from the cloud and restarting to the point you're back in action is 42 seconds.
:thinking :obama

I don't get it, they announced FFXVI with "ok" graphics saying they were using a different approach, being realistic with the production, announcing closer to the game shipping, etc, and now it's been forever since the reveal?  ???
I hope it's not yet another disaster...

Was there anything at all at the state of play besides Star Ocean?

Re: FF16, it's coming 2022. They're just not going to show it until it's 3-6 months from release and the visuals are basically done.

Apparently they were aiming for a TGS trailer but they couldn’t cut it, and they only wanna show the game when it’s just about ready for release. I could see it releasing summer next year if they’re not full of shit.

Also I think Star Ocean looks like my kind of trash. I don't even think it looks bad.

These State of Play's make no sense... It's like they draw names out of a hat on what to showcase at the last possible minute... But yet, like twice a day, they release vids of up and coming games.  For instance, this just popped up 4 hours ago..

Seems like a neat indy game... But why not show this instead of that vomit inducing We are OFK interactive novel, movie, whatever it was, that was drawn out way too long?   :steel

Era was shitting all over the new SO, tbh I don't think it looks that bad (the environs and exploration give me Xeno X vibes, which is always good) aside from the poor character models (something that SO has always had since they went 3D).

But then again they may just be shitting on it because of her:

Had a 15 year old Sony Bravia that was top-of-the-line at purchase. "Full HD" - what could be better?

Bought an HDR 4K Aquos and connected my PS5 to that. Suddenly Ghost of Tsushima makes RDR2's 30fps look shabby. This is just stunningly beautiful.

I'd say a good 4 hours straight using full-on haptics.  The DSe is much improved in all aspects over the DS4, IMO.

Yes.  It may be a little bit better than the DS4, but neither has good battery life.  Wii U pro controller continues to be the king for that.

DS4 never felt problematic to me. Do you all start charging it when it says that the battery is low? Because when it does that, there's usually still 2 to 3 hours in it. :idont

DS4/5 always sucked to me after DS3 which lasted forever in terms of battery life.

With DS5 I usually get through like a week on casual 1-2 hours/night play before I'm down to one bar. But if I'm playing an 8 hour all day session I'll be down to one bar by the end of the day.

Interesting.  I know we all have different hands, but I thought the d-pad was greatly improved over the DS4... like they went back to how it was on DS3.  But then, I don't play fighters, so I guess it's different for me...  It's been excellent for 2D platformers.

i've found the dpad really inaccurate, and way too squishy. series x dpad is one of, if not the best on the market for my taste.

i have three PS5 controllers and the fast charging station so i can play local co-op and swap out if a controller gets low  :doge having skipped the PS4/Xbone gen, the low battery life was really surprising to me at first. great controller overall though, probably edges out the series x for me. just not very into the dpad, but it's serviceable. always had a xbone pad for pc but use really good rechargeable AAs so hadn't really thought about the low capacity battery quality problem for in built batteries

I have the PC/Xbox version of the pad and am not big on the dpad for fighting games, but am hoping the one I got was just bad or they've improved it.

Downloads speeds are fine on the PS5. I get many games from PS+ and PS Now. Large games, e.g. The Last of Us 2 (77 GB), can now be downloaded in a reasonable time.

Ethernet cables make a difference, especially when playing streamed games off PS Now.

It might grow on me over time, but I'm not digging the dualshock 5 yet and much prefer the xbox controller (I have been using either a one or series controller pretty much exclusively for 18 months tbf).

Why on earth do they persist with the stupid touch pad too, no game uses that shit for anything other than a map/inventory button (and move the left stick where the dpad is for fuck sake even nintendo do that :stahp).

They're still fun, especially if you use a racing wheel. I'm still annoyed that the Logitech wheel that I got for my PS3 isn't compatible with more modern consoles. It works fine with PC.
