McFarlane just tweeted that movie producers are contacting him about Haunt.

They'll definitely have to change that costume for a movie...

Having been out of the comics loop for years, I had to go look the character up. Yeah, that's one original costume.

You must all read Afrodisiac, from the team that brought you Street Angel:

It's freakin' hilarious, and a masterpiece of design. It's a blaxpoitation parody in the vein of Black Dynamite but much more surreal and comicbooky.

Well worth $15, especially since it's a silk-bound hardcover.

I've never read any Marvel comics, but I've kind of been interested to try some. Are there any good trade paperbacks for Spider-Man or X-Men that are more like self contained stories where I don't need to know ridiculous amounts of continuity?

I'd read McFarlane's run on Spider-Man that introduces Venom. Only decent Spider-Man before the spiral into stupidity.

For X-Men, anything Claremont did is great. INCLUDING X-Men Forever since he killed off Wolverine immediately.

That Siege garbage is finally over, as is Dark Reign.  This week all the new Avengers books come out...it's Marvel's "Brightest Day."

I want to go back and read all the Dark Avengers comics now.  Only read the first six or so, and the last issue.

It's Quitely. And those are the most beautiful issues I've seen in the past year. How so many people can not get such a great artist is beyond me.

Agreed on Bruce Wayne #2 - that was great stuff. Same artist that did Morrison's Klarion the Witch Boy series (part of Seven Soldiers) in case you want more.

It's kind of by a rotating roster of artists.  It's French, but it's printed in small full color editions by NPB, who often translates Eurocomics for North American consumption.

I've only just started reading it, and it's a very large series, though only a small portion has made it to English, unfortunately.

Dong Xoai, Vietnam by Joe Kubert

A true story about US soldiers in Vietnam as 'advisors' prior to declaration of war, somewhat fictionalized and illustrated by 83-yr comics legend Joe Kubert. It looks insanely gorgeous. Cross-posting from books thread.

Why not? I assume Hollywood won't be bothering him for a while after The Spirit bombed.

Maybe you're too young to remember, but I remember going into the comic shop and seeing awesome new issues of Daredevil that he wrote and drew every month for several years. Frank can crank it out.

Boo ya. Frank knows how to move, that's for sure. Trouble is, he can make bad judgment calls, like letting Lynn Varley spaz colors all over the Dark Knight sequel. I'd also argue that Ronin looks like crap, but it's clear in retrospect that he was just working toward the style in which he would eventually render DKR. Which is flawless.

Correction, THIS is the greatest thing ever:

Reposted from the "Things you bought" thread, on the grounds that someone here might care.

I checked out a few of the scans of this when it initially came out but it was tough to read on screen and I lost interest. This, however, is something else. The whole thing is printed on art paper, unlike the original newsprint, so the art absolutely shines. Plus, it's presented at double the normal height, so when you read it, you're looking at basically 4 normal comic pages. It's just stunning. The strips themselves are great fun for the most part, but this is all about the art. Just a gorgeous book. I have no idea where I'm going to put it though - my wife hated it before I even opened the amazon box! (which was approx. the size of a gravestone).

It can't tell if it wants to be '80s or '90s. Not that anyone cares about Wonder Woman.

OK, let's talk about REAL comics, homos.

I read Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark last night, what a fucking riot. A shark lives in the forest, a bear lives in the sea. They murder people in horrific fashion constantly with zero provocation or warning. The shark is particularly hilarious, since it can home in on the most unlikely amount of blood at astonishing distances.

Yeah, I don't get the WW redesign either.  Maybe I expected too much from Jim Lee.  They are throwing out everything about the character and essentially starting over with her, but I read the prelude in WW #600 today and it just seemed like more the same, tired, cliche "character who doesn't know his/her past on the run in gritty environment" storyline we've seen before.  WW's design also screams early-90s leather jacket-with-pushed-up-sleeves-super hero.

They need to leave the iconic characters' costume designs alone, but it's not like this storyline and character change will be permanent anyway.  I'm not a big fan of Wonder Woman's costume as is, but this latest version isn't any better.

That said, I'm all for DC removing the underwear-on-the-outside-of-the-tights look that Superman and Batman (didn't they do this at one point already?) still have.   :P

So let me get this straight:

-Morrison's big idea for Batman after Bruce Wayne returns (properly) to the DCU is "Batman, Inc."
-It will focus on Batman recruiting other superhero/vigilante types to wear Batman suits and fight crime in his style.
-The costume is getting a re-design, ditching the jockey shorts outside the pants (yes!) and bringing back the yellow and black bat symbol.

So are they gonna ditch "Red Robin," "Batgirl," and others and just give them all matching batsuits?
